For centuries, institutional spirituality operated on a single, profitable premise: that access to the divine, the truth, or your own spiritual evolution requires a certified middleman.
Whether it was a priest dispensing absolution, an institution claiming sole ownership of scripture, or a modern guru selling the exclusive secret to "activation," the structure remained identical. You were positioned at the bottom of the hierarchy—a passive consumer leasing spiritual authority from someone who claimed to know more about your soul than you did.
In his groundbreaking work on Creation Spirituality, theologian Matthew Fox dismantled this entire architecture with a single, radical declaration: the era of the elite, isolated guru is over. What the introduction of Christ Consciousness was meant to be was the truth that every human being is born an inner mystic.
When you study applied energetics, you realize that needing an external middleman isn't a spiritual requirement—it is a habit of energy atrophy. True spiritual autonomy begins when you evict the middlemen from the center of your head and establish direct, un-mediated communication with your own spirit.
The Architecture of Deference: How Authority Drain Your Energy
When you make decisions in deference to an external authority—waiting for a teacher, a partner, or an institution to validate your choices—you create a specific, destructive dynamic in your own consciousness.
Instead of running your own animating flow, you drop out of the center of your head (6th chakra) and activate your 3rd chakra (solar plexus) to stay aligned with the authority figure's expectations. You send out heavy energetic cords of deference and obedience, effectively saying: "You hold the truth; I will adapt my space to match yours so I can be correct in your eyes and aligned to you."
This deference creates immediate energetic consequences:
Reversing the Animating Flow: Instead of a clean, top-down flow of your own spirit moving from the crown (7th chakra) and center of the head (6th chakra) down into your life, you revert to a bottom-up flow. You allow survival anxiety (1st chakra), emotional need for approval (2nd chakra), or efforting to please (3rd chakra) to become your animating drive.
Losing Clairvoyant Discernment: When the center of your head is occupied by foreign pictures of how you "should" be acting according to an external expert, your psychic sight is blinded. You can no longer see the space neutrally because you are viewing it through someone else’s lens.
The Atrophy of Self-Trust: By constantly asking external middlemen to interpret your energy, read your cards, or give you elusive permission to move forward, your own intuitive muscles wither. You become dependent on the very gatekeepers who profit from your uncertainty. It’s like spiritual MLM.
The Inner Mystic and the Top-Down Flow
To step into what Matthew Fox calls the democratization of mysticism, you do not need to accumulate more secret knowledge or receive external initiation. You simply need to change the directional physics of your space.
A mystic is not someone with special supernatural privileges. A mystic is simply an individual who engages in direct, un-mediated relationship with spirit—first and foremost their own.
In applied energetics, being your own inner mystic means restoring the natural top-down flow of your vehicle:
Crown & Center of the Head (7th & 6th Chakras): You sit squarely in the center of your head as a neutral observer. You connect directly to the higher frequency of your own spirit without routing through an institutional interpreter.
Throat (5th Chakra): You speak your truth, set clear boundaries, and express your creative vision without asking the crowd for a license to exist.
Lower Triad (1st–3rd Chakras): Your physical body, emotional centers, and personal will stop operating as frantic, bottom-up drivers. They become the grounded, well-calibrated physical engine that executes your spirit's vision and truth in the physical world.
When your energy moves in this clean, top-down sequence, you stop seeking "gurus" and start engaging in spirit-to-spirit hellos, which require no energy exchange. You recognize that every other person is also an inner mystic—and you interact with them as an equal peer rather than a superior or an inferior. Namasté!
Direct Perception: Replacing Middlemen with Clairvoyant Discernment
Moving away from spiritual deference doesn't mean becoming arrogant or rejecting wisdom from chosen mentors. It also doesn’t mean that you don’t seek out and receive support, guidance, and help—which we all need from time to time. It means shifting from blind obedience to self-directed discernment.
When you receive guidance from a teacher, a book, or a peer, you don't swallow it whole. You bring that information to the center of your head, look at it neutrally through your own 6th chakra, and ask: "Does this information resonate with the baseline of my own spirit? Is this useful to my path right here, right now?”
If it matches your truth, you integrate it. If it carries foreign energy, control mechanisms, or guilt, you discard it—without malice, and without needing the other person's permission to disagree.
This is the ultimate goal of applied energetics: to cultivate a vehicle so clean, grounded, and autonomous that you can stand in the middle of a noisy, authority and control obsessed world, look through the eyes of your own spirit, and know the truth of your own reality.
🔮 Weekly Reading Exercise: The Middleman & Inner Mystic Audit
Pair up with a reading partner this week, or in your own Clairvoyant Meditation Practice use your tools of discernment and focus them on the difference between the True Self and a dominant sub-personality. You can also ask these questions in a reading with a psychic—book a session with me if you want to look at these things together!
Scanning the Center of the Head: Step into the 6th chakra. Look around the room. Are there past teachers, gurus, parental figures, or institutional rules sitting in your head space, telling you how you ought to see energy?
Scanning Authority Cords: Scan the 3rd chakra (solar plexus) and 5th chakra (throat). Identify any heavy cords running out of your field to people or organizations you deference for spiritual validation or permission.
Evaluating the Animating Flow: Look at the primary stream of energy moving through the readee's spine. Is it a bottom-up flow powered by 2nd-chakra emotion and 3rd-chakra effort, or a clean top-down flow originating from spirit in the 7th and 6th chakras?
Healing Focus: Sever all cords of spiritual deference and middleman dependence. Evict all foreign authority figures from the 6th chakra. Give a clean healing to the spine, run a brilliant stream of Gold Sun energy down from the crown, and establish total seniority in the center of the head.
🤳 One Small Step: Evicting the Board of Directors
The next time you catch yourself feeling insecure about a spiritual experience, a reading hit, or a major life decision—and immediately want to ask an "expert" to validate it:
Hit the Pause Button: Close your eyes, drop out of the urge to seek permission, and step squarely into the center of your head.
Call Out the Board: Visualize a table sitting in your 6th chakra. Look at who is sitting there—past spiritual teachers, demanding parents, critical peers, or societal experts.
Serve the Eviction Notice: State clearly to your space: "Thank you for your input, but this is my vehicle. You no longer have a vote in my space." Watch them stand up and leave.
Reclaim the Seat: Drop a heavy grounding cord from your 1st chakra to the center of the earth. Pull a massive Gold Sun down through your crown, fill the center of your head with your own light, and look out at your life from your own seat of seniority.
📓 Journaling Prompts for Deep Integration
Identifying Spiritual Middlemen: What teacher, book, or institution have you placed on a pedestal, giving them the power to tell you whether you are "advanced" or "doing it right"?
Auditing the Animating Flow: In your daily life, are you operating mostly from a bottom-up flow (driven by emotional reactivity and solar-plexus efforting) or a top-down flow (led by quiet spiritual clarity)?
Stepping Into Mysticism: What direct intuitive knowing or truth about your life have you been discounting simply because it hasn't been approved by an external authority figure?
