Inspired by a conversation with my friend and colleague Alexandra Sorgenicht. Part Three of a Three-Part Series.
In spiritual circles, we often confuse authority with invulnerability.
We imagine that the "master," the high-level initiate, or the truly healed person is someone who never gets triggered, never feels pain, and is coated in a kind of Teflon armor where nothing sticks. We assume that if we are doing the work correctly, we should eventually become untouchable.
But that is not authority. That is dissociation. That is a disconnection from the raw, vital experience of being human.
Real spiritual authority—the kind that allows you to hold space for others without burning out—is not about being numb. It is about being permeable to life, but impervious to other people’s definitions of you. It is the ability to let an emotion pass through you without letting it take up residence in you.
The Question That Sets You Free
When a healer steps up to lead—whether it’s a professional session, a family gathering, or a creative project—they will eventually be challenged. The challenge often comes as an unspoken (or spoken) question:
“Who do you think you are?”
For years in one’s growth, this question feels like a weapon. It triggers our impostor syndrome because it hits the places inside us that are empty or unsure - or brings us back to square one of our path. It makes us want to shrink, explain, or justify our existence. We rush to prove ourselves: "I am just me! I am trying my best! I have these certifications!"
But as you mature in your own personal practice, the question shifts. It stops being an accusation and starts being an invitation for you to assert, in your own energy, who you are to yourself.
Who do you think you are?
This is not a challenge to rank; it is a challenge to occupancy of your own energy. If you don’t know the answer (which is a fair response, and often where we each start), you will automatically accept the answer someone else gives you.
If they say you are "too much," you will believe them.
If they say you are "wrong," you will believe them.
If they say “you have no right,” you will believe them.
The only protection against this is to be so full of your own energy that there is simply no room for another’s definition to occupy your space.
Alexandra Sorgenicht shared with me about the moment this shifted for her. After years of attacks and projections, she realized that true authority is simply the refusal to carry other people's shadows.
Her answer became crystal clear:
“I am Alexandra. I hold spaces. I know my shadows. I hold light. And I no longer carry other people’s shadows.”
This is the definition of energetic Seniority.
In the clairvoyant tradition, Seniority doesn’t mean you are "better than" or "higher than" anyone else. It means you are the primary occupant of your own body and your own energy space. Think of it like homeownership: if you leave your house empty, squatters (foreign energy, other people's pictures) will move in. But if you are home, lights on, fully inhabiting every room, the squatters cannot enter - they can try, but likely will not get a foothold.
When you have real Seniority:
You know what energy is yours. You recognize your own vibration.
You know what energy is not yours. You stop trying to heal, fix, or process emotions that don't belong to you.
You stop defending. You realize that you are willing to feel pain, but you refuse to turn that pain into a story about your unworthiness.
The Second Gift
The first gift of this work is the healing you give others. The second gift—the one you give yourself—is your own dignity.
It is the dignity of standing in a room, feeling the pressure of someone else’s expectations or judgments, and remaining completely, relaxed-ly yourself. You do not need to defend. You do not need to attack back. You just need to be centered in your own space and keep moving.
This is the ultimate freedom: to be fully visible, fully feeling, and fully defined by only your own Spirit.
Alexandra is hosting a four week class this winter at Art of the Seer, 🌺 Temple of Her: The Power of Embodied Womanhood - it begins today, January 26th. (You can participate live or through recordings.)
🔭 One of the truly magical things about our community at Art of the Seer is that since we share a commitment to the same tools, techniques, and practice container, it’s easy to reach out to each other members and create your own reading and healing exchanges. Using this post as inspiration, find a partner to work with—perhaps someone you know from a current or previous class, or post in the practicum chat groups that you were inspired by this post and find someone new to explore with.
🏄♂️ Weekly Practitioner Exchange: 30-Minute Reading & Healing
Pair up with a reading partner and exchange 30-minute Clairvoyant Readings together. Practice both giving and receiving as a way of deepening your experience and relationship to this topic.
The Reading Topics:
The Crown (The Connection): Look at the readee’s Crown Chakra (top of head). Is it set to their own vibration, or is it matching the vibration of a parent, teacher, or peer group? Who is setting the "rules" for their space right now?
The Question (The Trigger): Look at the energy of the question: "Who do you think you are?" When the readee hears this frequency, where do they go? Do they shrink? Do they fight? Do they ground?
The Definition (The Truth): Ask the readee’s Higher Self to show you the true answer. Who are they, really? Look at the gold, the specific cosmic flavor, the seniority of their spirit. Describe this texture to them in detail.
The Boundary (The Practice): Look at the difference between holding space and carrying weight. Where is the readee carrying weight for others (emotions, karma, expectations) that they mistakenly think is "holding space"?
Healing Focus: Give the readee a healing on their Seniority. Help them bolt their feet to the floor and own the center of their head. Clear out any "permission slips" they are waiting for from others and help them set the energy of their space to their own unique vibration.
🧘🏾♂️ One Small Step: A Solo Micro-Action
Sometimes something is too charged to feel safe being vulnerable in interpersonal spaces with it at first. If this is really stimulating you, you can work this energy in meditation using your tools, or in moments of embodiment and pause throughout your day.
The "I Am" Audit
Sorgenicht found freedom by writing her own definition. Today, write yours. It doesn’t need to be poetic; it needs to be true.
Complete these sentences on a sticky note and put it on your mirror:
I am [Name].
I am here to [Verb] (e.g., heal, create, listen, disrupt).
I know my shadows.
I do not carry...
Tell us in the comments: What is the one thing you are deciding to NO LONGER carry for other people this week? What do you expect to change, and what actually changes?
📓 Journaling and Self-Reflection Prompts
Sometimes we need to write it down to get it out of our aura. People learn, experience, and process energy in a variety of ways—visually, auditorily, conceptually—and here at AotSA, we validate all those different forms. If you process through writing, take 10 minutes with your journal to "audit" a recurring picture in your space you’ve come across using this template.
The Imposter Check:
Describe a recent situation where you felt the question "Who do you think you are?" looming over you. Did you try to prove yourself, or did you try to shrink?
The Occupancy Audit:
Imagine your energetic space is a house. Are you living in every room? Or have you closed off certain rooms (your power, your voice, your intuition) because you are afraid of taking up too much space?
The Luggage Inventory:
Look at the phrase "I no longer carry other people's shadows." List three specific emotional burdens you are currently carrying for someone else (a partner's anxiety, a parent's disappointment). What would happen if you put them down?
