“There is no progress in art, any more than there is progress in making love. There are simply different ways of doing it.”

Man Ray

Man Ray had no patience for the modern obsession with progress. He lived inside a creative lineage that understood something quietly radical: depth is not linear.

You don’t get “better” at art the way you get better at spreadsheets. You don’t advance toward truth like a product upgrade.

And neither does Spirit.

This single sentence dismantles one of the most persistent myths in both art and spiritual development—the idea that growth is a straight line, that mastery looks like ascent, that enlightenment is a ladder.

In study groups, I see this misconception constantly. Students arrive asking, "Am I more advanced yet?" or "What level should I be on?"

Man Ray’s answer would be simple: You’re asking the wrong question.

Why Progress Is the Wrong Metric

Man Ray understood art as a relationship, not an achievement. You don’t “progress” in intimacy—you deepen it, vary it, rediscover it, sometimes lose it, sometimes find it again.

Psychic development works the same way.

There is no final clairvoyant state. No permanent arrival. No hierarchy of souls who have “won” spirituality. Instead, there are:

  • Different ways of perceiving.

  • Different relationships to intuition.

  • Different rhythms of awareness.

  • Different seasons of insight and unknowing.

When we measure ourselves by progress, we bypass presence. And presence is where the seeing happens.

Art, Love, and Clairvoyance Share the Same Law

Man Ray places art and lovemaking in the same category for a reason. Both require attention, vulnerability, responsiveness, and a willingness to be changed by the encounter.

You cannot rush them. You cannot standardize them. You cannot replicate someone else’s experience with your own.

Clairvoyant meditation and spiritual practice follow this same law. One day your awareness is spacious and luminous. Another day it is quiet and opaque. Neither is superior. Both are truthful.

Psychic training does not make your intuition linear or "advanced"—it makes it honest.

The Danger of “Advancement” in Spiritual Culture

Modern spiritual culture loves ladders: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Master.

These structures are administratively useful—but spiritually misleading. They imply that earlier ways of perceiving are inferior, when in reality they are simply different ways of doing it.

The older I get, the more careful I am becoming with language. I try to talk about:

  • Refinement instead of advancement.

  • Discernment instead of power.

  • Relationship instead of rank.

  • Seniority instead of superiority.

Man Ray’s insight protects mystics from spiritual ambition—the subtle ego trap that confuses accumulation with wisdom. Wisdom adapts. Ego accumulates.

In teaching containers, I no longer offer levels and certificates on purpose. We've re-imagined this work as a practice that is always in present time with where one is.

🏄‍♂️ Weekly Practitioner Exchange: 30-Minute Reading & Healing

Pair up with a reading partner and exchange 30-minute Clairvoyant Readings together. Practice both giving and receiving as a way of deepening your experience and relationship to this topic.

The Reading Topics:

  • The Ladder: Look at the readee’s aura. Do they have a picture of a "Ladder" or "Staircase" in their space? Does this picture cause them anxiety about being "behind"?

  • The Comparison: Look at their 6th Chakra (Third Eye). Is their vision clouded by looking sideways at others to see if they are "doing it right"?

  • The Style: Look at their unique way of "doing it." Do they see cinematically? Emotionally? geometrically? Validate their specific style without ranking it.

  • The Season: Look at their current spiritual rhythm. Are they in a season of Action (making art) or Stillness (observing)? Validate that they are exactly where they need to be.

Healing Focus: Give the readee a healing on their 3rd Chakra (Solar Plexus).

Help them release the energy of "Striving" and "Ambition" and replace it with the vibration of "Presence" and "Curiosity."

🧘🏾‍♂️ One Small Step: A Solo Micro-Action

Sometimes something is too charged to feel safe being vulnerable in interpersonal spaces with it at first. If this is really stimulating you, you can work this energy in meditation using your tools, or in moments of embodiment and pause throughout your day.

Dropping the Ruler

Next time you sit down to meditate or do a reading, notice if you are holding an invisible "ruler" to measure how well it goes.

  1. Visualize the Ruler: See the measuring stick, the grade card, or the "level" indicator in your mind.

  2. Destroy It: Use a rose to blow it up. Turn it to dust.

  3. Say Hello: Say hello to your space exactly as it is right now.

  4. Affirm: "There is no progress. There is only this."

Tell me in the comments: What changes in your body when you treat intuition as a relationship rather than a skill ladder?

📓 Journaling and Self-Reflection Prompts

If you process through writing, take 10 minutes with your journal to "audit" a recurring picture in your space you’ve come across using this template.

  • The Measurement Audit: Where are you measuring your spiritual life instead of just inhabiting it? List the metrics you secretly use (e.g., "clarity of visions," "emotional calmness," "being right").

  • The Ladder Check: Do you feel "ahead" or "behind" in your life right now? Who are you comparing yourself to? What would it feel like if there was no track, only an open field?

  • The Reinvention: Man Ray constantly reinvented his style. How does your clairvoyance want to express itself right now? Is it asking for something different than how you did it six months ago?

Transition is a sacred threshold, but you don’t have to cross it alone.

As a liminal healer and intuitive coach, I hold space for those navigating the "in-between" moments of life, which sometimes can last days, weeks, months, or years. By working with consciousness tools and focusing on reuniting body, mind, and spirit to one’s innate creativity, I help you turn seasons of change into seasons of emergence.

With over twenty years of experience as a professional clairvoyant, trance-medium, psychic coach and teacher supporting more than a thousand seekers and mystics on their journey to self-actualization, I invite you to step into your authenticity and autonomy.
